Michael C. Abbott graduated from Camden High School in Camden, S.C in 1980. Michael graduated with honors(cum laude) from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 1984.  Michael worked in the insurance business for one year, then in the apparel/textile industry for 6 years in South Carolina and Georgia.

In 1993, Michael graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law with a Juris Doctorate degree. He was a member of the Moot Court Bar and the Order of Wig and Robe while in law school. He was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in November, 1993 and practiced with the state-wide law firm Turner, Padget, Graham & Laney in Florence until January, 2004. Thereafter, he practiced with the Hyman Law Firm until December, 2010. He resigned to found Abbott & McKissick Law Firm, LLC in January 2011, which is now Abbott, McKissick & Hopewell, LLC. 

Michael is a member of the Florence County Bar Association (2015 President), S.C. Bar Association,  and is admitted to practice before all State courts and the United States District Court for South Carolina. Michael has tried numerous cases to verdict in various trial courts throughout the Pee Dee in his more than 20 years of civil litigation practice, including personal injury, workers compensation, Social Security disability, contract law, and business disputes.  Michael is also a certified civil court mediator.

Michael is widowed with two children. He is a member of Central United Methodist Church and has volunteered for many years as a youth baseball, soccer and basketball coach. Michael’s hobbies include swimming, cycling, tennis and sports of all kinds.

Robert D. McKissick
Robert D. McKissick

Robert D. McKissick is a lifelong resident of Florence where he graduated from West Florence High School in 1990. In 1994, Robert graduated from Francis Marion University (“FMU”) with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and minor in History. While at Francis Marion, he was a member of the National Honor Society for Political Science, the Order of Omega (Honor Society for Greek Members) and Dean’s List. Robert was an active member of Kappa Alpha Order fraternity and was the No. III (Recording Secretary) during 1993-1994.

In 1998, Robert graduated from Mississippi College School of Law with a Juris Doctorate. He was also a visiting law student at the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1998. He was admitted to the South Carolina Bar on November 16, 1998 and worked with the Hyman Law Firm in Florence, South Carolina from August 1999 until December 2007. He also practiced law with Attorney John David Whisenhunt from 2008 through the end of 2010, when he resigned to start Abbott, McKissick & Hopewell, LLC with Attorney Michael C. Abbott. Robert is a member of the Florence County Bar Association and is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for South Carolina and the United States Court of Federal Claims. Mr. McKissick’s main areas of practice are Personal Injury, Social Security Disability, Workers’ Compensation and Civil Litigation.

Robert is married to Jennifer McKissick and they have four daughters. The family attends the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Darlington, South Carolina. Robert’s hobbies include running, spending time with family, and Clemson University Athletics.

Michael S. Hopewell graduated from college in 1984 with a BS degree in Business Administration from U.S. C. - Coastal Carolina College, then a branch campus of the University of South Carolina. After working in the business world for five years he began law school. Mike received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1992 and has been practicing law in Florence ever since. He practiced with the state-wide firm of Turner, Padget, Graham & Laney, where he was a shareholder, from 1992 until January of 2015 when he left to join what is now Abbott, McKissick & Hopewell, LLC

Mike has extensive trial experience in the state and federal courts of South Carolina and is admitted to practice in all such courts as well as the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond. His practice includes commercial collection work, Mechanic’s Liens and the domestication of foreign (out-of-state) judgments to South Carolina; as well as general business and personal injury litigation. Mike has spoken in seminars on the topics of judgment enforcement and collections. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the South Carolina Bar Association and the Florence County Bar Association, of which he is a past-president.

Mike is married and has two children. He attends St. John’s Church in Florence where he is a member of the vestry and the junior warden. He coached youth sports in Florence for many years and his hobbies include hunting, fishing and attending South Carolina Gamecock sporting events.
